Wild Marloth Park, South Africa
65If nature is your thing this is the place to stay!
Marloth Park is a holiday town next to the Crocodile River and on the other side of the river is the Kruger National Park. Some of the houses also overlook another game park, Lionspruit, where you can see the big four. Lionspruit charges R180.00 per person or R120.00 per person for an afternoon drive, but you have to bring your own snacks and drink
There are no fences in Marloth Park and I mean not even around your home; this allows wild animals such as impala, nyala, giraffe, zebra, buffalo and many more to roam around freely.
When you are having your morning coffee or breakfast outside, there is usually a visitor or two eating on your green lawn. These animals are quite tame as they are used to seeing humans around. There is nothing nicer than almost being able to touch a giraffe, zebra or warthog. This is when you feel at one with nature. It is extremely hot in this part of Mpumalanga in the summer, up to 33°C, the heat almost makes it unbearable to come outside in the summer but if you are a keen fisherman you can always drive to a local fishing spot, trying for some tiger fish. At night you can hear lions roar, as if they are just outside the house.
If you drive along the Crocodile River you are likely to see some animals roaming on the other side of the river or animals coming down to the river to drink.
Most of the houses are not visible to one another so this makes it very private and you can almost get a feeling that you are alone in the bushes. This is the bright side, criminal activities did pick up in the area because of the location of some houses. There are security guarding the park but one must always be careful!
Do try and get a house with an aircon and a swimming pool as this helps to cool down when the heat becomes unbearable. For the locals there is a community swimming pool overlooking the Crocodile River and Kruger Park.
Marloth Park does sometimes suffer from a lack of water and electricity, but nature makes up for that. There is a fuel station in the park with some shops and restaurant on the main road that runs through the park. This is an experience of African nature that you can not miss out on.
