Salt Rock, The Beach Cottages - South Africa
76Arriving at the self-catering cottages for my annual pre-December getaway break I was pleasantly surprised to find that these holiday rental cottages are situated right on the beach.
The vacation rental establishment is situated right on Salt Rock's Beach. The accommodation offered consists of small rondawels or cottages. This is self catering accommodation units.
This was my first time staying in Salt Rock and I must admit - I really liked this little town on the Kwazulu Natal North Coast (or Dolphin Coast) with its pristine beaches, relaxed atmosphere and the warm Indian Ocean to swim in.
Where is Salt Rock?
- Salt Rock is about 40 minutes' drive from Durban's International Airport on the North Coast (or Dolphin Coast).
- It is about 10km after Ballito.
What to do in Salt Rock:
- fishing - there are also beautiful reefs offshore
- deep sea fishing
- main beach has lifeguards and is shark protected with shark nets
- swim in the tidal pool next to the main beach
- surfing, body boarding, sun tanning
- dolphin (dolphins favour this stretch of coastline because of its relatively clear and shallow water allowing the dolphins to swim close to shore in order to feed)
- and whale viewing
- whale sharks can also be seen along this stretch of coastline
- scuba diving at Tiffany's Reef or Sheffield's Reefs
- nightlife in Salt Rock is still relatively quiet with bars, pubs and restaurants offering a variety of seafood and drinks
Note: You can rent umbrellas, surfboards and beach chairs on most of the swimming beaches.
