Travelling with kids

This can be a horrendous experience if you don't prepare yourself!

Traveling to a holiday destination by itself is already a horrible experience without having to cope with someone smaller and needier than yourself.

They are moody, get irritated easily and always want something when there is no shop around. They spill their drinks when you can absolutely not stop and they make a terrible mess when eating in your vehicle. But the other side is also true, it is simply priceless to hear their comments on things they see and experience for the first time. If you visit the Kruger Park for the first time with them you see everything in a different light as if for the first time yourself. Going to places that would interest your toddler is always an experience you won't forget like a petting zoo.

An absolute must have for the times when traveling to your destination is a portable DVD player in your vehicle. They could watch a movie for hours or just simply watch and listen to their favorite songs. I can not imagine my live without one of these!

Toys, definitely a must but not too much as this could be a missile projected at you when they are trying to get your attention.

Change of clothes and lots of it. Mine keep on changing her shirt when ever something messes up her appearance and for those small spills definitely wet wipes. This is not just good for your toddler but yourself as well especially when the road is long and far.

Stroller with canopy: Sometime or another your toddler will refuse to walk one step further and then you end up with all the goodies you bought plus a toddler in your arms. This can cause a major fight between the two of you. A stroller is fully collapsible and doesn't take a lot of space.

I found that by taking small sealed containers of milk along in a cool bag or small fridge can save you a lot of hassle as it is instantly available and always cold.

A good sun block is a good thing to take along as you burn even while you are traveling and this could result in a red child when reaching your destinations making a goods night rest impossible.

Finally your toddler should never ever be allowed to sit in the back of your vehicle without an approved car seat. Don't be the person that says what if I only fastened my child's safety belt. A car seat could save your child from serious injury if you ever happen to be in an accident.

Travelling with a child in a vehicle can he difficult - but only if you are not prepared!
